Costa Rica

Over Labor Day weekend, Greg and I took a trip to Costa Rica in celebration of our two year wedding anniversary. Peaceful and serene comes to mind when I reflect on our experience of the beautiful country. It was our destination of choice to visit because we were intrigued by its lifestyle. A society rooted in family, education, and health. Costa Rica remains a neutral civilization for more than sixty years and in place of military spending, they offer free education through the 11th grade and health care for all of its citizens.

As of late, Costa Rica's literacy rate is at 96% and was ranked first in the Happy Planet Index for 2009. This lush Central American country takes top place on a new Happy Planet Index for having the highest levels of life satisfaction in the world, a long life expectancy, and because 99% of its energy comes from renewable sources. To boot, how can Greg and I not fall in love with a culture where locals greet one another, "Pura Vida (Pure Life)?"

Happy Two Years Gregorio! Here's to you, who halves my sorrows and doubles my joys. I learned what love is by loving you...
